Welcome to our FIS homepage. We hope that these pages will give you an informed and enjoyable insight into what we offer our students both academically and socially.

The Franconian International School was founded in 1998 to serve the needs of a growing international community in the Nürnberg, Erlangen, Fürth and Herzogenaurach area. Within 9 years we have grown from 25 students to over 300 from over 30 different nationalities, taught by a highly-qualified and dedicated international faculty.

Our school is situated in the heart of Herzogenaurach on two campuses. The Dassler Villa houses our Kindergarten and Elementary School, while the Convent Campus houses the students in our Middle School (Grades 5-8) and High School (Grades 9-11). Both buildings are within walking distance of the old town. We are truly proud of our school, with its well furnished classrooms, modern science labs, state of the art computer labs, excellent music and art facilities as well as library. We also use the sports facilities available locally for our sports program.

Our academic curriculum promotes enquiry based learning. We strive to teach critical thinking skills and instill international respect and understanding within a caring, nurturing and safe environment. In the Elementary School, classroom teachers teach Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Art. Specialist teachers teach German, Ethics, Physical Education, and Music. English as a Second Language is offered to those with limited or no English language. In the Middle and High Schools specialist teachers are used in all subject areas.

An After School Activity Program enables students to take elective courses in the areas of sports and the arts. The school and its program is supported by an active Parent Teacher Organization.
