Student Dress Code

The  FIS has developed a “School wear” policy. We feel that enforcing this dress code will ensure that the FIS children are always dressed appropriately and it will also reduce competition regarding clothing.

Kindergarten and Elementary School FIS students should wear:

  • Navy, white or red shirts (T-shirts, polo shirts, oxford shirts, turtle necks, sweaters and sweatshirts), all in solid colors, but may have a small logo.

  • Trousers, skirts or shorts will have no defined color requirement.  Dresses may be worn, but should also be in the above solid colors only.

Kindergarten and Elementary School FIS students should not wear:

  • T-shirts, polo shirts, oxford shirts, turtle necks, sweaters and sweatshirts which have stripes, plaids, or checks or any multiple color combination.

  • T-shirts, polo shirts, oxford shirts, turtle necks, sweaters and sweatshirts which have a large logo that dominates the piece of apparel.

  • Various shades of the above mentioned colors such as pink, magenta, purple, cream, violet, orange, light blue,

During the school year, we will be having "special dress" days. These may be "dress up" days such as Halloween or Fasching, or "dress down" days.  "Dress down" days are days when students may wear clothes which are still attractive, but do not necessarily conform to the above color code.  These are all Fridays, and all 12:00 dismissal days.  Additionally, children can also wear their own choice of clothes on their birthday.

The daily weather here can be cold, damp, rainy and often windy. It is imperative that parents send their children to school dressed in clothing that is appropriate for these weather conditions. On days when the weather is considered by teachers to be inclement, outside play activities will be cancelled. On most days, however, pupils will be expected to participate in outdoor physical education activities and recess periods to release their energy, to exercise, and enjoy the pleasure of playing games with their classmates. If children are dressed warmly and appropriately there is no threat to their health from engaging in these activities. Unless children have a note from their physician, they will not be allowed to remain indoors during recess.

All Children are expected to keep sport clothes in school for their sport classes. Each child should have:

  • Clean sneakers (no gymnastic shoes)

  • Tee shirt

  • Shorts

  • Sweatshirt

  • Sweatpants or track suit bottoms

  • Socks
