From our
Director, Mr. Fred Runkel:
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this past week, a great
majority of the parents (and many of the students) attended conferences with the classroom and subject teachers.
From all reports, they were highly successful, with much information coming
from both parents and teachers, which will only benefit the children in the
next part of our school year. These conferences are just part of the building blocks which we use to
further the education of the children here at FIS.
We, the FIS team, would like to thank all the parents
who attended, and urge all parents to contact teachers and set up an
appointment at any time when this is necessary during the school year. Parents
please note that we have also scheduled Parent -Teacher Conferences to be held
in April, at the close of our third academic quarter.
A big thank you
to the PTO, the FIS Middle School Student Council and to all the parents who lent a helping
hand for all their hard work in preparation for our Halloween celebrations
which took place at the Dassler Villa and at the Convent Campus today. The party at
the Dassler Villa and the pumpkin carving at the Convent Campus were wonderful
and every one had a super time! A
special thank you as well to the Hoffmann family (Kevin, Grade One) who donated special Sport Hoffmann Halloween
T-shirts to all of the Kiga and Elementary School
students!
The FIS will be closed for the one-week autumn recess next week
with school resuming on Monday, November 5th. As we go into our autumn break, a well
deserved week off for both students and teachers, we would like to thank all
those members of our community, both parents and teachers who have helped make
the beginning of this school year run so smoothly. The entire FIS staff would like to wish all of the
families at our school an enjoyable fall break, and a safe return home and to
school in November.
Goodbye: The FIS is sad to have to say goodbye today
to Grace Brimble (K4), Riri
(Grade 3t) and Yuki (Grade 6) Kunishima and Jacqueline Richardson (Gr. 9). The Kunishima and Brimble families are moving
to the USA and Jacqueline Richardson will be attending the American High School in Bamberg.
We wish all these students and their families all the best in the
future!
Time Change: Remember to change your clocks back one hour
at 03:00 on
Sunday October 28th to end Daylight Saving Time.
General Assembly Meeting: Our annual General Assembly meeting will
take place on the evening of November 27th at the FIS – Dassler Villa campus and all parents
are welcome to attend. The General
Assembly meeting takes place once per year and allows the Board of Directors the opportunity to report to
the Verein, or association, on the status of the
school. The official invitation to this
meeting and the agenda will be mailed to all members of the association two
weeks prior to the meeting.
Buß & Bettag: There
will be no classes for students on the Buß & Bettag holiday on Wednesday, November 21. This day will be
used by our teachers as a Professional Development day. Classes will resume on Thursday, November
22.
Parking at
the Dassler Villa: We are once again receiving some
complaints from our neighbors at the Dassler Villa due to the congestion of
cars blocking the streets, driveways and sidewalks. As a result of these complaints the local
police have also resorted to ticketing cars parked illegally. When dropping off or picking up your children
at the Dassler Villa, please ensure to only park in legal parking zones, which
may require walking a short distance to the school. Thank you for your cooperation!
Susie Boehm: Susie will be performing this Saturday night,
October 27th, at 8:00pm in Jahrsdorf
as part of the Hilpolstein Kult
Tour 2007. Joining her onstage will be Sigi Hoga, Marko Bittner, Stefano Renzi,
Rainer Boehm....and of course, Chloe (grade 4) will also be gracing the stage
for a few numbers. For info and tickets:
