Year Ten
Newsletter 29
From our Director, Mr. Fred Runkel:
With the last seven weeks of this, our tenth school
year, upon us, many end of year activities are currently happening or will be coming
up soon. Today I would like to
congratulate Mrs. Thomas and the cast and crew of The Not So Wild Wild West Show, which was presented this week to the
Elementary School Students, and then to the public on Thursday evening. This is the second time this production has
been presented at the FIS, and both were very entertaining.
Many other activities are coming up. This includes but is not limited to: Science
Days at the Middle School, overnight field trips for Grade Four and the High
School, IGCSE exams in the High School, end of year exams in Grade Eight and
the High School, Sports Day, Arts Week at the Convent Campus, and end of year
field trips in many classes.
Additionally we are continuing to plan for our move
to our new FIS Campus in
By the end of July our new campus will be ready to
receive the contents of our school, and all of our furniture, teaching
supplies, technology equipment and records will be distributed to the
respective classrooms, offices and other areas of our new campus. During the month of August, as our staff and
teachers return from their well deserved summer break, the school will be made
ready and classrooms decorated and organized to receive the students for the
first day of school on August 25.
We are all looking forward to moving into our new
home in Erlangen, into larger classrooms with advanced technology, and of
course a facility complete with our own sports hall. In the meantime we will also be saying
good-bye to Herzogenaurach, the city which has so graciously supported our
school over the past decade. This has
been a wonderful partnership, and one that has enabled the FIS to grow from our
initial 25 students in 98-99 to our current enrollment of 321. The support from Herzogenaurach and from
adidas, which was there for so many of our needs from a stage for drama
productions (including this week, thank you) to sport equipment and more have
truly enabled the school to grow to the stature it has today.
Upcoming May Holidays: The FIS will be closed for the following
public or school holidays in May:

Shoes
Needed: The Middle School Art Department is desperately
seeking SHOE DONATIONS. Any
style of shoe is acceptable and worn and ruined is not a problem! They will be used as a basis for Rococo
sculptures. Unfortunately they are needed in rather a hurry – i.e. next week if
possible. Please send in as many of your
old shoes as possible to the attention of
After School
Pick Up: If you are
picking your child up at the end of the school day, please ensure to do so
promptly at dismissal time or directly after any applicable after school
activities end.
MS/HS Drop Off / Pick Up:
Parents of Middle and
High School students, when dropping your children off in the morning, please only pull into the bus area in front of
the school going in the correct direction of the flow of traffic (i.e. facing
uphill). Driving around the traffic circle will only take a few seconds
longer and this will ensure the safety everyone on Zum Flughafen. We also ask
that all MS/HS parents pull up into the bus bay when dropping off their
students, and then leave promptly thereafter. Parents who need to come into the
Convent Campus building should park further up the street in the legal parking
areas. With the traffic light and crosswalk just down the street from the
Convent Campus, students who are dropped opposite the Convent, should walk down
and make use of it.
In the afternoon the bus bay is reserved for our
