The FIS will be closed for our Spring Break from March 17-28.  School will resume on Monday, March 31.  Have a safe and relaxing break!

Time Change:  Don’t forget that we will change our clocks AHEAD one hour at 02:00 on Sunday, March 30th.

Safety at the Dassler Villa Playground:  In order to improve safety on the Dassler Villa playground we have introduced a warning letter system. Our aim is to have the children share, co-operate with each other, and respect each other during break time. We encourage the students be kind and helpful to their classmates. If we see that children are breaking our playground rules they will be issued with a pink playground behaviour letter. The teacher on duty will talk to the child about the inappropriate behaviour and discuss consequences. The letter should be taken home and signed by a parent. Our FIS playground rules are on the back of the letter. They are also displayed in each classroom. We hope that we don’t have to issue too many letters and that break time behaviour improves.

Parents of Bus Riders:  If your child(ren) will not be riding the bus at the end of the school day, please ensure that the appropriate office is informed early in the day so that accurate bus lists can be created for the teachers on bus supervision.  If your child will not be using the morning pick up bus service due to illness, please contact Taxi Zwingel directly to inform them of this at 09193-3366.  Thank you for your consideration in these matters.

Shoeboxes for the Children in Romania:   The Middle School is collecting small items and accessories to fill shoeboxes that will be sent to the children’s shelter in Romania with the Grade 11 class in June. The purpose of the action is to donate items that the children have little or no access to. The homeroom that fills the largest number of shoeboxes per student will win a prize.

Parent Teacher Conferences:  The third quarter Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, April 15 for the Middle and High School, and Wednesday, April 16 for the Kindergarten and Elementary School.  If you have not already done so, please complete the appropriate form and return it to the school office as soon as possible.

The Middle/High School conferences will take place between 8:30 – 17:00 on Tuesday, April 15 at the Vereinshaus in Herzogenaurach located at Hintere Gasse 22.  There will be no classes for the Middle & High School students on this day but it is mandatory that all students in Grades Five through 11 attend the conferences with their parents.  The Kindergarten and Elementary School conferences will take place between 8:30 – 17:00 on Wednesday, April 16 at the Dassler Villa.  There will be no classes for the Kindergarten & Elementary School students on this day. It is strongly recommended that students in Grades Two through Four attend the conferences with their parents.

Due to the conferences, After School Activities will be cancelled at the Dassler Villa on Wednesday, April 16.

Helping Kids Succeed in School and Life

School years are the formative years, laying the foundation for the adult a child is to become. Strong relationships strengthen this foundation, and encourage children to strive for their very best. Following are a few ideas to add to the family’s repertoire of up-building activities!

  • Engage in learning activities at home
  • Read and discuss stories, articles, events together
  • Family field trips! Learn together
  • Express appreciation for their contributions in the family and elsewhere
  • Show affection unconditionally - all senses: touch, visual, auditory, taste, smell
  • Focus on improvement, progress, and effort
  • Go to school! Attend school activities and functions
  • Share family stories and family history
  • Schedule family fun nights and go on dates with your kids
  • Watch TV, the news and movies together and discuss them
  • Assign age-appropriate responsibilities at home…work together
  • Establish family rituals and traditions
  • Acknowledge your own mistakes, failures and struggles
  • Identify your top six character trait goals, then model for and affirm in your child.

Examples: persevering through adversity; having a high level of tolerance for people’s differences; being a life-long learner; demonstrating humility, honesty, and integrity

  • Daily "Put-Ups": acknowledge the strengths and interests your kids have
  • Have fun together!
