Year 10

Newsletter 20

February 15, 2008

Re-registration for School Year 2008-2009:  It is hard to believe, but we are already one full week into our second semester of the 2007-2008 school year here at the FIS.  With this, it is already time for us to start thinking about and planning for the upcoming 2008-2009 school year. A large aspect of this planning depends on enrollment.  It is also necessary for us to know how many of our students will be returning next school year so we know how many vacancies we have to offer to new students.  As such, attached with this newsletter are the FIS re-registration and withdrawal forms for the upcoming school year 2008-2009. Families should complete the appropriate form (one per family) and return it to school office by Friday, February 22.  For students who are re-registering, the re-registration fee must not be paid at this time. This will be added to the tuition bill for school year 2008-2009 which will be mailed in June.

Due to our move to Erlangen next school year, some details of our bus transportation system will change.  Please see the attached letter regarding this before completing the bus service section on the re-registration form.  Please note that completing this section is not a final confirmation that you will or will not use the bus service.  This is just a general inquiry in order to determine approximately how many students would be interested in using our bus service so we can begin with the organization and planning of the new bus system.  Further information regarding the bus service will follow once the details are finalized.

For those families who have either not yet paid their lunch bill from the first semester, or have not yet returned their report card confirmation form, we would ask you to do so early next week so that the books can be closed in these areas.  Many thanks.

Welcome:  We were happy to welcome five new students to our school recently.  Ana (Grade 4gl) and Karla (Grade 6)  Rivero Valles joined us from Mexico, Evan (Grade 4kl) and Kenneth (Grade 9) Bressler joined us from the USA, and Ryunosuke Kogane (Grade 4gl) joined us from Japan.  We warmly welcome these new students and their families to the FIS!

We are also happy to welcome Mrs. Gunilla Westin, who joined our teaching team this week.  Mrs. Westin will be taking over the Grade Five Literature classes from Mrs. Bennett to allow Mrs. Bennett time to focus on curriculum development.  Mrs. Westin is already a familiar face around the FIS Convent Campus, as over this past school year she has acted as a substitute teacher when needed.

Goodbye:  We are sad to have to say goodbye today to Elisa Zeelenberger (Kindergarten Red).  Elisa and her family are moving to Russia.  We wish them all the best for the future!

After School Activity Program: Our popular After School Activity Program will begin again the week of March 3.  The courses will run for ten weeks and therefore end in May. A list of offerings was sent with this newsletter.  Please complete and return this form to the school office by no later than next Friday, February 22.  Letters informing you about which activities your child has been placed will be sent home in the next weeks.

Please remember that the ASAP will run from 3:30 until 4:30 on each respective day (3:40 until 4:40 in the Middle/High School) and parents should be aware that students who take part in the After School Activity Program need to be picked up from school at 4:30  (4:40 at the CC).

ITBS and ISA Test Results:  Parents of Middle School students: individual ITBS and ISA test results, accompanied by an explanatory letter, were sent home today with your children.  Please direct any questions or concerns to Mrs. Ang at michelle.ang@the-fis.de or 09132/730230.

After School Dismissal:  This is a reminder to all parents that if your child will be picked up by someone other than yourself, or will not be riding the bus as usual, it is imperative to inform the school in writing ahead of time.  This also applies to Middle/High School students leaving campus without their parents after school.  They will not be allowed to do so without written permission.  Thank you!

Water Bottles:  Please ensure that your child has a water bottle at school that he/she can fill up throughout the day.  This way the children stay hydrated throughout the day, which is essential for learning.

Dog-Sitter Needed:  Adrian Haug and Tara Allen are looking for a dog-sitter for 4 weeks this coming summer.  We will be travelling to Canada for two weddings and have yet to find a place for our dog Loki.  Loki is a small 2-year old English Bulldog who is very nice, loving, trained, and a little bit lazy.  He sleeps for most of the day!  Loki takes about a 30 minute walk every day and plays for about an hour afterwards.  Although he is very easy to manage, he is a people person, which is why we do not want to send him to a kennel.  We would supply everything needed for him and there would also be a stipend involved for the sitter.  If you are interested in housing a big baby bulldog in whole or in part for this time, please contact Tara or Adrian.  Thanks so much! Tara Allen Tara.Allen@the-fis.de or Adrian Haug Adrian.Haug@the-fis.de

Native English Speaker Sought:  I’m an 11 year old boy and I would like to spend time with a friend who will speak English with me. I am in Gymnasium and we speak German and French in my family, so you can choose which language you want to practice with us.   If you would like to meet, please contact me at 09131- 68 73 709.
