General Assembly Meeting: Our annual General Assembly meeting will take place at 19:00 on Tuesday, November 27th at the FIS Dassler Villa campus and all parents are welcome to attend.  The General Assembly meeting takes place once per year and allows the Board of Directors to report to the Verein, or association, on the status of the school.  The official invitation was mailed to all members of the association last week.  The audited financial statements from 05-06 and 06-07, including the P+L and Balance Sheet, and the approved budget for school year 07-08, which will be presented at the General Assembly have been mailed home with today’s newsletter.

Our Board of Directors is comprised of ten members.  According to our Articles of Association, five Board members including the Chairman, represent the associate members of the FIS Association, mostly sponsors of the school, whose donations over the past years have enabled the FIS to become a viable entity.  The second group of five Board members are parents of FIS students, representing the parent body.   The Board has been a very active group during the past year, as the daunting task of organizing and financing a new school building has been a combined effort between school administration and the Board.  The members of the FIS Board of Directors are:

:

Mr. Ralf Guntermann - Siemens

:

Dr.  Thomas Lask - Kennametal

Secretary

No Winter Party this year:  We will not be hosting our annual FIS Family Winter Celebration party this year.    We look forward to making this an annual event once again when we are in our new facilities next school year.  The FIS Elementary School Drama Club, to celebrate the winter holiday season, is presenting Charles Dickens´, “A Christmas Carol” on December 12, 13 and 14.  For more information on the performances and to order tickets please see the additional attachment with this newsletter.

The cost per photo package is €20.  The purchase of partial packages is not possible. If you wish to purchase the photo package please send €20 in an envelope marked with your child’s name and “school photos”. Baker Book Order: The Baker Book order forms have arrived and were distributed to the students today. Please return the order forms, including money, in an envelope labelled “Book Order” to the school office by no later than Friday, November 30.

Please Note:  1 pound = 2 EUR.  Please disregard the Euro price in the catalogue as the school must pay shipping.

Old Picture Frames:  The Art Department of the Elementary School is looking for donations of old picture frames to brighten up the hallway in the Dassler Villa basement.  We would like to turn this area into an art gallery and exhibit the best art pieces of our students.  If you would like to contribute to our project please send in your old picture frames with your children or drop them in the office at the Convent Campus or Dassler Villa.  We can use every style and size!  Your support is highly appreciated.

Tutors Needed / Tutors Available:  Do you know someone who is a tutor, or who is interested in tutoring middle and high school students?  We would like to expand our list of available tutors in all subject areas.  If you know someone who might be interested, or, if you are looking for a tutor for your child, please contact Mrs. Ang at the convent campus. michelle.ang@the-fis.de

MS/HS Drop Off / Pick Up: Parents of Middle and High School students, when dropping your children off in the morning, please only pull into the bus area in front of the school going in the correct direction of the flow of traffic (i.e. facing uphill). Driving around the traffic circle will only take a few seconds longer and this will ensure the safety everyone on Zum Flughafen. We also ask that all MS/HS parents pull up into the bus bay when dropping off their students, and then leave promptly thereafter. Parents who need to come into the Convent Campus building should park further up the street in the legal parking areas. With the traffic light and crosswalk just down the street from the Convent Campus, students who are dropped opposite the Convent, should walk down and make use of it.

In the afternoon the bus bay is reserved for our Zwingel Taxis. MS/HS Parents may give their students the chance to walk to a prearranged meeting point by signing our “FIS Walk Home Alone Form”. Alternatively, parents may park in a legal parking area close to the school and walk to the Convent Campus to pick up their children.
